Nature Worship

The first religion was the religion of nature. Indigenous cultures from the New Zealand Maori to the Native American Indian recognize & worship the spirit in all things, a practice known as animism.

Animism, from Latin for 'breath' is the belief that everything - animals, plants, rocks, rivers and even words have a soul & are connected. Animism contains the oldest spiritual & supernatural perspectives of the world dating back to the Paleolithic Age. Once dismissed as primitive & and in some places even outlawed, animism is now on the rise. Traditional forms such a Japanese Shintoism alongside newer forms that center around reconnecting with & worshiping the natural world are flourishing.

As awareness of the fragility of our earth grows perhaps a return to the religion of nature is the church we've all been looking for.
